Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until Celebration of Legacy & Life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church 113 Federal Ave. Morgan City, LA. Burial will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Yvonne Williams Wilson, ninety-six served as Matriarch of the Coleman and Williams families for several years. She was born to the late James and Mandy Coleman Williams. She is a Morgan City native who married the love of her life, Paul L. Wilson on Oct. 6, 1947. They live in Siracusa Subdivision near Morgan City; LA having lived in the same house for over 58 years. As a result of this union, the Wilsons have eight children: two daughters and six sons. Of the eight, five are living.
She recently shared the noteworthy key to their over 76 years of marriage with the Louisiana Family Forum Staff. “Understanding is the best thing in the world. That’s my motto,” she said. “The sun don’t shine every day, might get a drizzle of rain. That’s the way life is.” As part of their 70th wedding anniversary celebration in 2017, they received a proclamation and key to the city of Morgan City from the then mayor. Most recently, the couple was honored by Loving Hearts, a local organization, and Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church.
She loved God and his Word and as a result, she accepted Christ at a very early age at the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Morgan City, a church that she attended her entire life. She and her spouse also shared a mutual love for music. Their favorite hymn, “Through It All,” sums up their bond of over seven decades.
In her earlier years, Yvonne Williams Wilson worked as a substitute teacher and later completed correspondence training at a nursing school in Chicago. She was a loving meticulous housewife who served as the President of the Colored American Legion Women’s Division in Morgan City and several times as President of the Pokeno Club, a social club that provided student scholarships to their community. When able, she served as a member to the Missions Department at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. In her leisure time, she enjoyed being with family, tv movies, current events, and sporting the latest fashion.
Memories of Sister Wilson will forever remain in the hearts of Husband of 76 years, Paul L. Wilson Sr.; Offsprings and spouses: Sheena P. Wilson Coleman (Don), Naperville, IL; Valerie L. Wilson Simmons (Ezekiel III), Morgan City, LA; Myron J. Wilson, Sr. (Paula), Lafayette, LA; Kelvin M. Wilson, Sr. (Judy), Amelia, LA; Demetrius M. Wilson (Lisa), Patterson, LA; Twenty Grandchildren; Sixty-Nine Great Grandchildren; and Fifteen Great, Great, Grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins including some extremely special nieces, nephews, and children.
She is preceded in death by her son, Paul L. Wilson Jr., Jerome J. Wilson, and Martin L. Wilson. Siblings: James Williams Jr., Genevieve Williams Green, and Birdie H. Williams Mills. Parents: James and Mandy Coleman Williams; Grandparents: Dennis and Almeta H. Virgin Williams and Horace and Rosetta Dennis Coleman; Great Grandparents: Jim and Emmaline Williams; Gatley and Mary Jane Washington Virgin Robt and Charlotte Jackson Coleman; Sam and Josephine Mangle Dennis; Great, Great Grandparents: Bob and Anika Mangle; and Great, Great, Great Grandparents: Sophia Goodman.
