Judith Ann Rosa of Morgan Hill died Aug. 26, 2014, at Pacific Hills Convalescent Home in Morgan Hill, with her loving husband, Lynn, at her side and surrounded by the large family that she guided with her boundless compassion and love.
Judy was born Sept. 21, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo. She met Lynn at Ampex in Redwood City where they both worked and they married on Oct. 19, 1968. The couple moved to Morgan Hill in 1974, where they raised three children, Eric, Jennifer, and Matthew. All three children and their families still live in Morgan Hill.
Judy is remembered as someone who had a great desire to help others. People couldn’t help but feel love for Judy because she showered those around her with it so freely. When her children joined youth activities Judy always joined in to help the groups with fundraisers and organizing. She took great pride in turning the Pop Warner Snack Shack into a profitable business. She was deeply involved with the other “Dance Moms” at Lana’s Dance Studio. She passed on those traits to her children who are active in their children’s youth groups. Judy and Lynn’s home was known to their children’s friends as an open, supportive environment where everyone was welcome, so groups of friends often gathered there after school for fun and games, with Judy reveling in their joy.
She loved her grandchildren, doting on their accomplishments, and offering a supportive lap when they needed someone to talk to. As matriarch of the family, Judy was also the big sister and sounding post for her sister, Patrice, sharing the secrets and everyday lives that bring sisters so close.
Judy’s love was not limited only to her own family. In 1974, she and Lynn started Rosa Residential Care, a residential care home for handicapped women. Many women lived at Rosa Residential Care over the years, but a core group, Carmen Garcia, Jane Purves, Corrine Cane, and Gina Powers, had been with them for more than two decades.
Judy also had a broad sense of humor, responding to just about any joke with a deep hearty laugh. She loved bowling and needlework and could be found often in the aisles of Continental Stitch, looking for the right yarn for another hat or scarf for a family member.
Judy is survived by her husband, Lynn; her children Eric, Matthew, and Jennifer Maka; brother Bill Maginnis, of Tucson; sister, Patrice Maginnis, of Santa Cruz; and grandchildren Emily, Tyler, Nathan, Mackenzie, Danielle, and Crystalbelle; and an extended family of in-laws and friends.
Arrangements for cremation are being handled by Johnson Funeral Home of Morgan Hill.
A memorial celebration for family and friends is planned for Saturday, August 30.
