On February 17, 2011 my beloved husband, partner and best friend ALVIN ZERO WEBB, age 67, of Morganton, went on to the far side banks of Jordan. He will be with those who have gone on before him, his parents Jack & Lura Mull Webb, stepmother Sadie Webb, son Michael Alvin Webb, stepson Charles Jason Finley, brother-in-law Carroll V Setzer Sr., and many others.
Surviving Alvin is his beloved wife, Nancy Setzer Webb. His Grandchildren Dalton, Dylan, Dakota, Dustin, TJ and Kristen Webb, Ryan and Brandi Hall, Caitlin and Connor Finley will remember him as an amazing and wonderful grandfather.
Alvin is also survived by his son David and wife Sandra Webb; daughter Crystal and husband, Rodney Hall; a stepson, Joey and wife, Debbie Finley; a brother, Paul and wife, Phyllis Webb; sisters, Jackie and husband, Jerry Pearson, and Shirley and husband, Marshall Robinson.
Alvin worked for the City of Morganton as a Public Safety Officer for 30 years, and during that time won many trophies for his marksmanship. He worked with the Junior Police Program and youth at camp Firestone during his earlier years as a police officer and took many to camp at Lake James. He also played and coached softball. Local children knew him as Sergeant Webb because he conducted safety classes in the schools.
Alvin had many fond memories about the times he spent with the children. Once in a first grade class he was giving a lesson on seatbelt safety, when one young girl came up to him and addressed him as Charlotte’s Web instead of Sergeant Webb.
Alvin was also involved with different organizations on drug prevention (DARE) and spoke at numerous events. He was also instrumental in starting many neighborhood watch communities in the city. Alvin was also a member of the Morganton Masonic Lodge.
After Alvin retired from the City of Morganton, he started his own business, A.Z.’s Towing Inc, and was involved with the NC Department of Revenue.
Alvin was an avid hunter and fisherman traveling through out the United States enjoying these activities. He enjoyed horseback riding with his family and friends during his life.
When we were out, he was easily recognized and highly regarded. He was known by many different names, Zero, Zeak, Webb, AZ, Alvin, or Sergeant. We loved them all! He will be highly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 19th 2011 at Mount Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Gamble and Rev. Rodney Raby officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with honors provided by Morganton Public Safety. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.
Memorials may be made to Nancy S. Webb, PO Box 1691, Morganton, NC 28608
