Miss Annie Lee Powell

Miss Annie Lee Powell, 89, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010 while at Autumn Care of Drexel. Born September 14, 1920, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Brice Obie Powell and Nettie Mae Benfield Powell. In addition to her parents, Annie was also preceded in death by a brother, Commodore Powell, three sisters, Nellie Mae Lowdermilk, Martha Belle Walker & Eva Louise Powell and a nephew, Leonard James Smith. Miss Powell loved children and caring for them, she also enjoyed cooking, sewing, fishing and puzzles.

She will be lovingly remembered by a host of nieces and nephews including two nephews, William Obie Lowdermilk and James E. Lowdermilk, both of Morganton and

four nieces, Annie Jane Whisnant, Peggy Ellen Smith, Ruby Mae Smith and Myrtle Alice Lowdermilk, all of Morganton.

Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Mountain View #1Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Frady officiating. Interment will follow at the Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton.
