OBITUARY
Carnell Renee Ferguson
January 28, 1966 – March 26, 2021

On March 26, 2021 God in his infinite wisdom called his servant Carnell Renee Mathis Ferguson from service to reward.
Carnell was born January 28, 1966 in Morganton, N.C.to the late Douglas Garfield Mathis and Evangelist Ella Jean Jones Mathis.
Carnell was a faithful member of St Paul AME Church in Lenoir N.C. where she served as the Director and past president of the New Jerusalem Choir. Carnell was a Steward, on The Stewardess Board #2, member of the Usher Board where she served as secretary and Missionary Unit Leader. Carnell also served in the Lay and Pastor’s Aide organization.
Carnell and David were foster parents to seven children ranging from ages five to eighteen years old over a period of 7 years. Carnell was an active member and instructor at Carolina Tae Kwon Do and Century Karate over a period of 30 years. For 12 years, Carnell worked at Hickory Hill Furniture and she worked 7 years at Foothills Corrections. Carnell was currently employed with Greer Laboratory.
Carnell was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Douglas Garfield Mathis Jr., maternal grandparents Ella Pearl Caldwell & Charles Jones, paternal grandparents Frances Corpening Mathis & Garfield Mathis and a sister-in-law Zona Mathis.
Carnell will be dearly missed by all. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband David Mark Ferguson of 34 years, Amanda Williams (Dennis) of Connelly Springs, Edward Mathis of Elizabeth, TN; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 05, 2021 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Due to COVID-19 masks and social distancing will be required .
The Ferguson family has entrusted arrangements to Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton.
