

During his lifetime he worked as a firefighter for the Morganton Fire Department and later became a Public Safety Officer with the City of Morganton. Charles also worked as a volunteer and was the former Chief of the Triple Community Volunteer Fire Department. He dedicated his life to the service of the Morganton community.
Charles enjoyed spending time in the garden and sharing the produce with friends and neighbors. He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Charles loved seeing the grandchildren and spending time with them. He always found a way to teach them important life lessons during their time together.
Along with his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Arlene of 59 years, and a daughter, Debra Lynn Clippard Harris.
Those left behind to cherish Charles' memory include two daughters, Janice Ann Edwards and her husband Rock of High Point, and Wanda Lee York and her husband David of Lookout Mountain, GA; five grandchildren, Tyler, Tiffany, and Trevor York, Kelly Edwards, and Anna Harris, two great grandchildren, Zechaiah and Elias York; two daughter-in-laws, Jana and Reagan, and two brothers, James Clippard and Larry Clippard with his wife Tildie. The family would also like to acknowledge Jackie, who was his friend and companion the last few years of his life.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, July 16, 2021 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmie "JR" Richards officiating. Honors will be provided by Morganton Public Safety and the Triple Community Volunteer Fire Department. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
