Don spent much of his working life at Dana before pursuing his passion for racing by opening and operating Antioch Speedway. In 2000, a car accident left him disabled, bringing significant changes to his life. Through life’s challenges, the memories he made and the people he loved remained an important part of his story.
Don enjoyed fishing and hunting in Colorado, where he could spend time outdoors doing what he loved. He also treasured family gatherings, especially those filled with good food, familiar faces, and time together. Pinto beans, cornbread, and Boston butts were more than just a meal; they were part of the traditions and memories that brought family together.
Above all, Don will be remembered for his generous heart. He was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone else. If he saw a child in a grocery store, he would often reach into his pocket and give them a dollar bill or whatever spare change he had. It was a simple gesture, but it reflected the kind of man he was. Don believed in giving what he could, and he never needed much of a reason to make someone smile.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lester Elijah Patton and Violet Ireta “Rita” Childers Patton; his brothers, William Patton, Ricky Patton, and Lester “Flubb” Patton; and his son, Corey James Patton Lee.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jane Roberts; his son, Eli Patton; and his sisters, Kathleen Berry and husband Randy, and Mary Harlee and Husband Don, along with other family members and loved ones who will continue to carry his memory in their hearts.
Don’s life was marked by hard work, a love for the outdoors, a fondness for gathering around the table with family, and a generosity that asked for nothing in return. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the kindness he showed will live on through the people who knew and loved him.
May he rest in peace, reunited with the loved ones who went before him.
