Born on May 9, 1966, Earl was the son of Edward and Roberta Yancey. He spent much of his life in the Glen Alpine area, where he had many friends and built relationships that lasted throughout the years. He worked at the SGL Carbon Plant and Broughton Hospital.
Anyone who knew Earl knew how much he loved the outdoors. Fishing and hunting were two of his favorite ways to spend his time, and few places meant more to him than Lake James. He knew the lake like the back of his hand and made countless memories there over the years.
Earl was also a huge Washington Redskins fan. He loved his dogs, his family and friends, and simply being outdoors.
Earl is survived by his partner, Kathy Allen; two sons from his first marriage to Carrie Eller, Lance Yancey and wife Emily, and E.J. Yancey and wife Jordan; his grandchildren, Ella Anthony, Saylor Yancey, and Oaklee Yancey; his brother, Robert Yancey; and his sister, Aundrea Shell.
Earl will be remembered for the life he lived, the friendships he made, and the memories he left behind. From his many friends around Glen Alpine to days spent fishing and hunting and countless hours on Lake James, he leaves behind stories and memories that his family and friends will carry with them for years to come.
He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all those who knew and loved him.
Earl's Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, August 24, 2026, at his home church, Zion Baptist Church in Morganton, North Carolina. The family will receive friends beginning at 12:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. Rest in peace, Dad.
