

She was born on June 12,1925, in Harrisburg, PA to parents George and Mary Cockill. She was a graduate of the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing and devoted her career and personal life to helping others. She married her soulmate and together they raised a family, traveled, played sports, faithfully attended grandchildren’s activities, and were active in the social circles of Bryn Mar Ocean Towers in Vero Beach, FL and Oak Run in Ocala, FL.
In 2015, Betty moved to NC to be closer to family and had the pleasure of spending her remaining years at Grace Ridge Retirement Community. Her family is exceedingly grateful to all of her wonderful friends and the caring employees at Grace Ridge who loved, supported, and provided her with both companionship and ample opportunity to play Bridge! Betty was resilient and the embodiment of the “greatest generation,” having persevered through tumultuous times all the while building and living the American Dream to its fullest.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William Patrick “Pat” McGlaughlin and numerous other family members.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three children: Richard McGlaughlin, Jeffrey McGlaughlin, and Patricia “Pat” McGlaughlin; her four grandchildren: Darren McGlaughlin, Toby Gialluca (Tony), Casey Baker (Jason), and Chelsea Nielson (Rasmus); her six great grandchildren: Sydney Longo (Matt), Jerry McGlaughlin, Isabella Gialluca, Maxon Gialluca, Nolan Baker, and Isla Baker; and her one great great grandchild Margaret Longo.
The family will have a private memorial at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Nurses Educational Funds, Inc.
Kirksey Funeral home of Morganton, North Carolina is assisting the family with arrangements.
