Evelyn Elizabeth Ervin

Born in Burke County on November 14, 1945 to the late Benjamin Leo Cuthbertson Sr. and Fannie Loretta Moore Cuthbertson.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband James Herman Ervin Sr.; her son, James Herman Ervin Jr.; and brother, Robert Cuthbertson.

Evelyn was an active member of Shiloh AME Church, a steward, and a class leader. She retired from Henredon Furniture. After retirement, she continued working at a group home for teenage girls. She was active in politics as well, and was a proud democrat.

Mrs. Ervin is survived by her sisters, Lula Corpening (husband, Hugh); Velva Jenkins; Laura Jean Rutherford; Hazel Fuller; and brother, Benjamin Cuthbertson Jr.; daughter, Fannie Lavern Davenport (husband, Leslie); sons, Robert Ervin and Jessie Ervin (wife, Crystal); grandchildren, Sean Anthony Ervin, Mary Elizabeth Ervin, Isaiah Ervin; Nicholas Alexander Davenport, Raven Johnson, Winfield Johnson, Marius Harshaw; great grandchildren, Denisha Danner, Delilah Ervin Jackson, Ashanti Ervin, Jacob, Tiana, Ivy, Iveah, KJ, Johnson; and three great great grandchildren; host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 1:00PM to 2:00PM in church with Rev. Dr. Wayne Johnson Sr. at Shiloh AME, 1323 N Powerhouse Rd, Morganton NC. The eulogy will be held from 2:00PM to 3:00PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

"Going Home"

God saw she was getting tired a cure was not to be. He put his arms around her and whispered "come with me." With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay, a golden heart stop beating. A hard working hand went to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best. A million times we think of you, a million times we cried if love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In ours hearts you will always have a special place that no one can fill. It broke ours hearts to lose you but Evelyn you didn't go along for most of us went with you. The day God took you home.
