Gerald Wayne Griffin

Gerald “Wayne” Griffin, 81, passed away peacefully in his home on February 2nd, 2025. He was born on May 18th, 1943 in Asheville, NC to Elijah and Bernice Griffin. He married his wife, Sharon Griffin, on October 15th, 1967. He was a Civil Engineer by trade. Throughout his career he worked at Thompson, Gordon & Shook in Morganton, NC as well as several engineering firms in Florida. He retired from Del Webb Community Development in Summerfield, FL.

Wayne and his wife, Sharon, raised 3 children of their own and also fostered multiple children with developmental disabilities. He was a father figure to many other young people in their community as well. He was known for his kind and gentle spirit and willingness to help anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife; daughter, Kimberley Ann Griffin Burns; two infant daughters, Joanna and Michelle; and brother, Micheal Griffin.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Jonathan (Allecyn) Griffin and Micheal Griffin; brother, Jennings (Donna) Griffin; son in law, Scott Burns; grandchildren, Kandice (Stephen) Gallion, Patrick Whittle, Lane Griffin, Megan (Dusty) Myer, Lauren Griffin, Micheal “Riley” Griffin, and Jacob “Ben” Griffin; and great grandchildren, Quinn Gallion, Shaylee Griffin, Mistaya Myer, Finley Gallion, Owyn Gallion, and Reese Griffin.

A memorial service honoring the life of Wayne will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at Kirksey Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00-3:00pm at the funeral home.
