Johnny was born the son of the late Billie Cicero Powers and Velma Evon Powers on February 22, 1958.
Johnny was retired from the Western Youth Correctional Institute where he worked as a Security Officer. He was a loving and kind man. Johnny will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Powers; a daughter, Trudy Whitener (Nathan); two Grandchildren, Nate Whitener, Jr (Ashlynd) and Adrian Whitener (Destiny); four great grandchildren, Jacobie, Jaxson, Jace and Alayna Whitener; and three sisters, Carolyn Emerson, Linda Payne (Dennis) and Debra Huffman (Bob). Also surviving are numerous other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the home of Carolyn Emerson, 2494 Melvin Propst Dr., Morganton, NC 28655.
