Kim’s journey began in Western New York State, born the 4th child of Kenneth and Alice (Sheldon) Greig in Warsaw N.Y. on November 11th 1965. Her first years were spent in Silver Springs, N.Y. where she attended Letchworth Central School. Kim’s family then settled in Dale N.Y. where her parents currently reside. She along with her siblings: Wesley (Beth) Greig of Warsaw N.Y., Wanda (Rick) Cobb of Wayland, N.Y., Wayne (Helen) Greig of Ft. Myers Florida and Randolph Greig of Dale N.Y. attended and graduated from Wyoming Central School. Kim was always interested in government and history and was part of the Yorkers program at Wyoming which enabled her to interact with many local and state leaders. She attended Circle “C” Ranch as a preteen and it was there she accepted Christ as her Savior. She was baptized down in the creek and became active at Dale Baptist Church in Sunday School and youth group bringing joy and energy to every activity she participated in. It was in youth group that she met her childhood sweetheart Kevin VanBuren.
Kim attended Genesee Community College and Alfred State University studying both accounting and nursing. She also enlisted briefly in the Army and was honorably discharged from boot camp with a back injury. Kevin and Kim were married August 8th, 1987 and settled in Avoca New York where they raised their four daughters: Katie (Michael) Egan from Bristow, VA., Emily (Gregory) Watson from Locust Grove, VA, Laurie (Cody) Wakefield from Morganton, N.C. and Christy (Nathaniel) VanVleck from San Diego, CA. Kim volunteered at many events hosted by Family Life Ministries where Kevin worked for 27 years. Kim homeschooled their daughters, becoming a friend and resource for many in that arena. She was very involved at Avoca Baptist Church serving as a leader in the Awana program and for 8 years as church secretary. The VanBurens moved to Western N.C. in 2014 where Kevin works at The Light FM and Kim volunteered at various concert events. They were blessed with 8 grandchildren with one on the way: Rachel (5), Alexis (3), Evalynn (1) Egan; Landon (7), Mia (3) Watson; Dominic (4), Lincoln (2) Wakefield; Amylia (1) VanVleck.
Kim’s favorite pastime was video chatting with her grandkids from other states and babysitting Dom and Lincoln at their current home in Marion N.C. She worked for a local Weight Watchers and also enjoyed sewing, making dresses and doll clothes for her granddaughters. She received an online seamstress certificate as Kim never did anything half-heartedly. She loved the outdoors including camping with her family and hiking, which she was doing on the day of her passing. Kim struggled with a few health concerns which may have contributed to her passing but she never let that slow her down or lesson her joy or love of the rich life God blessed her with.
