

He was born on November 2, 1946, in Valdese, North Carolina to the late Kathleen McDaniel Costner and Lloyd George Costner of Glen Alpine, North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy J Costner; son, Jimmy Dean Costner.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jeraldine Hudson Costner; sons, Danny Lloyd Costner (wife, Renee) and JD Street (wife, Britt); daughters, Angela Costner Lane (husband, Scott), and Misty Carroll (husband, David); sisters, Deloris Costner and Linda Helplar (husband, Franklin); eight grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Dean was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, honorably serving his country during the Vietnam War. Through his dedication and commitment, he retired from the military with the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant. Dean was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Morganton. Above all, he was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather who treasured his family and the memories they shared together.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain, North Carolina on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Thom Hartman officiating.
