Mary Lee Erwin Carpenter

Mary Lee Carpenter, age 86, of Morganton, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Mary was born the daughter of the late James Erwin and Madge English Erwin on November 8, 1930 in Avery County. Mary was a member of Zion Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary was a loving wife, mother grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Along with her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband Lester Carpenter and three brothers.

Those left behind to cherish Mary’s memory include a daughter, Deborah Whisenant and her husband Rick of Morganton; two grandchildren, Eric Whisenant and his wife Megan of Morganton and Jennifer Church and her husband Thomas of Lenoir; and five great grandchildren, Brittany Dupuis, Braxton Whisenant, Christian Church, Trinity Church and Gracie Church. Also surviving are five nephews, four nieces, numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in the chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Rose officiating. Interment will follow in Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
