
Mrs. Mary Virginia Tate, 82, of Morganton, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at her daughter’s residence in Sugar Grove, VA. Born on February 3, 1931 in Burke County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Alexander Kincaid and Martha Allice Jarrett Kincaid.
After growing up in Burke County, Mrs. Tate traveled extensively with her family and her husband, CMSGT. Charlie McDowell Tate while he served in the United States Air Force. They finally settled back in Burke County for the last 40 years. She was a member of Asheville St. Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie McDowell Tate; sister, Mildred Benfield; and brother, Russell Kincaid and his wife, Betty Sue.
She is survived by her daughters, Greta Lowe and husband, J.R. and Gail Tate; her two dogs, Cassie and Jasper; brothers, Norman Kincaid and his wife, Kathy and Frank Kincaid and his wife, Shirley, all of Morganton; brother-in-law, Bobby Benfield of Morganton; grandchildren, Jake Lowe of Gastonia, Vikki Speer and Stephanie Anderson, both of Marion, VA; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and in addition to her family, her best and dearest friend whom she has known since childhood, Wilma Jarrett.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2013 in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with the Reverend Douglas Lynn Goforth officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00p.m. at the funeral home.
