Melinda Katherlyn Lytle, 60, of Morganton, crossed to be with her "Heavenly Father" on Sunday, August 21, 2022. Melinda was born the daughter of the late Homer Rumfelt and Mary Jewell Jones Rumfelt on October 25, 1961 on the Army's "Fort Campbell" military base in Montgomery County, KY.
Melinda was known by many for her generous spirit and creative heart. She loved her children, grandchildren and family more than anything. To know her was to love her. Melinda was an authentic soul. She had something not many in this world possess. Melinda would give when she had nothing and she never knew a stranger. You always knew she loved you. There wasn’t any question of that. Melinda had a heart of gold. She was a granny, mama, wife, friend, sister, stepmom, and a talented craft and flower artist. Gardening and hummingbird watching brought her so much joy, almost as much as her Coca-Cola and cancer sticks.
A loving wife, Melinda is survived by her husband, John Robert Lytle Jr. of the home, seven children; Christina Burdette and husband John of Morganton, Steven Banks of Phuket, Thailand, Paige Cork and a son-in-law James Cork of Morganton, Thomas Peters and wife Patricia of Morganton, John Robert III of Fairview, Brian Pritchard of Newland, and Sherry Pritchard of Morganton; ten grandchildren, Jameson Cork, Nova Cork, Lyric Cork, Sterling Adair, Chase Burdette, Caden Peters, Bentley Peters, Aubrey Peters, Levi Pritchard, and Zachary Pritchard; two brothers, John Lancaster and wife Sharon of Hopkinsville, KY, Tommie Lancaster and wife Debra of Marion; a sister, Yvette Stanley and husband Doug of Morganton; a number of nieces and nephews; her beloved pet dog, Gypsy; and four cats, Gizmo, Stripes, Patch and Meow Meow.
In addition to her parents and grandparents, Melinda was preceded in death by a son, Steve Pritchard.
The family will receive friends from 3-4pm, service to follow, Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Mount Olive Baptist Church. Reverend Michael Gantt will be officiating. Please direct all floral tributes to the church or the families home.
