Nola Azalee Fleming

Mrs. Fleming was born in Burke County, North Carolina on November 26, 1926 to the late Russell and Ethel (Clark) Saunders. On September 20, 1945, she married Ned G. Fleming, who preceded her in death on June 24, 1999. Mrs. Fleming was a housekeeping supervisor at Western Carolina Center, where she retired, and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Morganton. Mrs. Fleming loved to cook and was an avid reader. She enjoyed going on walks and attending family gatherings. Mrs. Fleming will be remembered for her warm heart and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ned G. Fleming; a sister, Effie Mae Smith; a brother, Earl Saunders; and a grandson, Shane Fleming.

Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca F. Brittain & husband Bob of Granite Falls; two sons, Thomas G. Fleming & wife Vicki of Advance and Robert L. Fleming of Morganton; three sisters, Linda Saunders of Morganton, Helen Hallyburton & husband Jimmy of Morganton, and Viola Harris of Texas; three brothers, Donald Saunders & wife Brenda of Morganton, James Saunders & wife Shirley of Morganton, and Bruce Saunders of Morganton; two granddaughters, Brittany Fleming of Morganton and Tiffany Gulledge & husband Todd of Advance; and two great grandsons, John Michael Gulledge and Owen Gulledge, both of Advance.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Memorial Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with Pastor Philip King and Pastor Ed Lawing officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
