Richard was born on March 30, 1930 in Weehawken NJ to Frank and Marie Anna Zimmerman. As a young child, his parents moved to Central Islip, NY. 71 years ago, at the age of 18, he dedicated his life to his heavenly Father Jehovah on July 25, 1948.
In 1949, Richard met his lifelong partner, Rosemarie Victor at a roller skating rink. They were married on May 10, 1952.
His first daughter, Chery lAnn was born in 1955. Two years later he moved his family to New Kingston NY, a tiny hamlet in the Catskills, to help establish a permanent congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in that area. A second daughter, Donna Lynn, was born in 1958. Another joy in his life was the birth of his grandson, Cameron Roberts in September of 1993.
Richard was an elder that served faithfully in the Arkville NY Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses until the year 2016. In December of 2016, he moved to Morganton, North Carolina with his daughter and son-in-law. At that time he began to serve as an elder in the North Morganton NC Congregation. He faithfully helped others both physically and spiritually throughout his life, spending endless hours with Bible in hand sharing the good news of the Kingdom throughout an extensive area in the Catskills. To support his ministry, his secondary occupation was as a contractor. He could point to many beautiful homes locally that were a product of his construction business.
On October 14, 2009, Richard lost his treasured wife Rosemarie. On June 11, 2017, he lost his second daughter Donna Lynn. But his faith in his Father Jehovah and his Son Christ Jesus’ ability to resurrect the dead kept him strong and confident of a better future. Now he is safely in his heavenly Father’s memory, awaiting a resurrection to a beautiful paradise earth.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Chery lAnn and Michael Armeno. He is also survived by his grandson and wife, Cameron and Michelle Roberts; his brother and wife, Robert and Marian Zimmerman; and his nephew and wife, William and Rebecca Zimmerman.
A memorial service is pending and will be announced at a later date.
Kirksey Funeral Home of Morganton has the honor to serve the family.
