He was born on March 20, 1953 to the late John Yelton and Edna Briggs in Mitchell County, North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Wesley Edward Mallory Jr.
Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and horseshoes. He loved the outdoors and spending time with family.
Those left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Shannon Mallory of Morganton; son, Timothy Yelton of Morganton; sister, Louise Yelton (husband, Jim) of Morganton, Shelby Powell (Kenny) of Morganton; brother, Lee Yelton of Drexel, Ray Yelton (wife, Wanda) of Lenoir, Roy Yelton (wife, Rosella) of Bakersville, Benny Briggs (wife, Jenny) of Bakersville; grandson, Isaac Mallory of Morganton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton with Pastor Brantley Moore officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service from 1:00PM to 3:00PM. Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery in Morganton.
