Tim departed his life well lived on October 18, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC. Tim was born in Varnville, SC January 08, 1927 and was raised in Raleigh, NC with his mother Nettie, sister Mary Edna and brother Johnny, all deceased. Upon graduation of high school Tim was accepted at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Medical School where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. Tim’s devotion to serve his country led to enlistments in both WWII and Korean War where he earned honorable discharges from the Navy.
Tim completed his studies at UNC earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration which led to a distinguished career with the Wm.S. Merrill Company serving as a Pharmaceutical Representative in Wilmington, NC until relocating to Charlotte, NC where Tim and wife of 61 years Mary raised a loving family.
Tim continued working in the Pharmaceutical field until 1975. With the children grown, Tim and Mary
opened a Real Estate company on Lake Norman where they performed residential sales and appraisals.
After retiring in 1985, Tim and Mary relocated to the Morganton, NC area where Tim served part time as a
Hospice volunteer and National Forest Service greeter at the Nebo, NC office.
After a period of declining health, Tim was admitted to Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing care. The
family would like to express our appreciation to the devoted staff and care provided by The Mitchell
House in Spruce Pine, NC, College Pines in Valdese, NC and the State Veterans Home in Black
Mountain, NC as well as the wonderful caregivers at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville,
NC.
Tim was a “man for all seasons” and always was ready with compliments and smile to family, friends and
strangers alike…often followed by a small offering of chocolate as Tim was rarely without a pocket full of
Hershey Kisses. Tim’s daily goal was to bring a little sunshine into the lives of others. His family and
friends could always count on Tim to promote the positive and provide an encouraging voice. Tim’s wit
and wisdom will be surely missed but those who knew him can agree - Heaven got one heck of an
upgrade with Tim now reunited with “his bride” Mary where they will celebrate eternal life strolling along
Sunshine and Bluebird Lane.
Tim and Mary had three children, Beverly Ramsey, Linville, NC, Forrest Bowen, Bluffton, SC and Marc
Bowen, Greensboro, NC along with numerous grand and great grandchildren.
The family wants to thank Chaplain Jack Taylor of Black Mountain, NC for his devotion to Tim. After a
private ceremony, Tim and Mary will be buried together at the NC Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain,
NC with support from Kirksey Funeral Home in Morganton.
On behalf of Tim, he would say to all, “Have some fun, Have a good day…and all those thereafter!”
