He was born in Niagra Co., New York to the late William Frank Barrett and Alberta Koske Barrett.
Wally was a Naval Veteran and received a Administrative Commenddation for his part while serving on the USS Fort Snelling (LSD-30) in 1966, when his unit went to Dominican Republic to rescue Marines. Wally loved to hunt, fish and cook. He loved to put model car kits together. He was also a member of the Barber Shop Quartet. He loved spending time with his family and will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son; Dennis Phillips.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 19 years, Diane, daughters; Lisa Carpenter and husband Allen, Crystal Johnson and husband Joel, sisters; Barbara Jagow, Evelyn Belstadt and husband Tim, Beverly Clark and husband David, aunt; Susan Flemming , seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 12:00pm. A receiving of friends will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Kirksey Funeral Home. Burial will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain following the service at 2:00 PM.
