Wanda Beatrice Childers

She was born on January 10, 1932 to the late Henry and Pauline Reed in Catawba County, NC, and was a long time member of Wilkies Grove Baptist Church.

Wanda retired from CR Laine furniture and generously used her sewing talents during the pandemic to make and give away masks. For the past three years, she called Trinity Ridge home, and we are especially grateful to the nurses and staff who cared for her with such love and compassion.

She found joy in reading multiple novels per week and relaxing with adult coloring books, often gifting her beautifully colored pages to others. Wanda also loved playing bingo and having her nails painted in bold, vibrant colors that matched her lively spirit.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Childers; grandson, Kris Evans; and son-in-law, Terry Adkins.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Debbie Evans ( husband, Mickey), Tammy Brooks, Junine Adkins, Rita Canipe (husband, Bryan); son, Nathan (wife, Jeanette); nine grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Monday, June 16th, 2025, at Kirksey Funeral home, located at 406 Lenoir Road, Morganton, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, NC.

In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to Wilkies Grove Baptist Church, 5780 Wilkies Grove Church Rd., Hickory, NC 28602.
