Barbara Faye Johnson Cook, age 84, of Whitesburg, went home to be with the Lord on November 22, 2019 after an extended illness. She was born on February 23, 1935 in Hancock County and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was most happy when her family surrounded her, and she enjoyed cooking big meals for anyone who visited. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and living on the farm. She loved everyone and welcomed anyone into her home. Her quick wit and funny one-liners remained with her to the end. She was a member of Three Springs Baptist Church in Whitesburg. She had a great belief in the Lord, which showed through in the way she lived her life. She retired from Lear Seating, though she'd worked in many industries over the years. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty-three years, John Leonard Cook; her granddaughter, Brennan Alexandria Smith; parents, George L. and Alpha Mary Shockley Johnson; infant brothers, Carmel and Elisha; and brothers and sisters, Reuben (Molly) Johnson, Ada (Carson) Coffey, Eula (Note) Baker, Oma (Carson) Coffey, Booker (Lola) Johnson, Lenn (Jewel) Johnson, Pauline Brogan, and Edith (Dorman) Brogan.
She is survived by her three children, son, David (Dana) Cook; daughters, Lynette Smith Patterson, Leigh Ann (Billy) Westmoreland; grandchildren, Bryar Smith, Madisson Westmoreland, Jace Smith, Will Westmoreland, Griffin Patterson; great-granddaughter, Carter Grace Green; brother-in-law, Robert Brogan; and over 100 nieces, nephews and close relatives.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 from 5 – 7 p.m. in the Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Steve Johnson and Rev. Stanley Carpenter officiating. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. to go in procession to Hamblen Memory Gardens for a 2:00 p.m. graveside service.
Special thanks to Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice, as well as Amada Senior Care for the loving attention and support they offered over the years and at the end.
