

Ewing “Doc” Buell, age 89, of Morristown, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Doc was born on October 19, 1927 in Hancock County. He was a Deacon of Statem Gap Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army. He retired from American Enka after 39 years of dedicated service. Doc loved traveling, gardening and competitive games. In his younger years, he loved to ski and taught lots of family and friends how to ski. He was a champ at playing pool and ping pong.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha Ratliff Buell; brothers, Willie, Dillard, Leonard, Mack, Roscoe, Elisha, and Luke Buell; sisters, Sallie Roberts, Ovie Buell, Oma Young, Elvie Wilson, and Rachel Croxdale; and grandson, Paul Buell.
Doc is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Dorothy Stines Buell; daughters, Teresa (Bruce) Hermsdorfer, Freida (Steve) Corbett, and Watheda (David) Monroe; grandchildren, Greg Hermsdorfer, Josh (Candice) Hermsdorfer, Tim (Crystal) Hermsdorfer, Krystal Corbett Jarnigan, DeWayne Stewart, Melissa (Greg) Hardin, Zeb (Nikki) Elkins, Zar Elkins, Denise Monroe and Crystal Monroe; several great-grandchildren; sister, Norsie Brewer; sister-in-law, Barbara Buell; several special nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Martha Smith.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 10 from 5 – 8:00 p.m. at Stubblefield Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home with Rev. Dean Buell officiating. Interment will follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens. VFW Post #5266 will provide military honors.
