

J. D. Hayes, age 85, of Morristown, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at his home. He was a member of Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as Trustee. He received a plaque for his 50 year membership of the church. J. D. worked as a truck driver for more than 50 years. He drove for Jeffrey Chain, Magnavox, and Crete Carrier during his career. He was a good man who loved everyone and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. J. D. was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Bertha Hayes; four brothers, Gene, Ernest, Elmer, and Bob Hayes; and sisters, Maggie Short and Ruth Sauceman. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Lorene Hayes; son, Billy (Linda) Hayes; daughter, Kim (Kevin) Nelson; grandchildren, Kelsey Nelson, Leslie (Mike) Nicholson, Marc (Kelley) Hayes, and Travis (Jennifer) Hayes; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 6 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow in the Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home at 8:00 p.m. with Rev. Donnie Myers and Roger Bumgardner officiating. Family and friends will meet in Hamblen Memory Gardens at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, April 22nd for a graveside service at noon. Services are under the direction of Stubblefield Funeral Home.
