Jim was born on August 24, 1944, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Clarence Lansing Quackenbush and Ida Belle Hebron Quackenbush, both of whom preceded him in death.
A proud patriot, Jim honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, building a life marked by hard work, integrity, and quiet determination.
Jim was a man of few words but immense character. Those who knew him understood that his actions always spoke louder than words ever could. He possessed a kind and generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand when it was needed.
Above all else, Jim adored his beloved wife, Cheryl Quackenbush. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and simple joys on their farm in Whitesburg. Some of Jim’s happiest moments were spent alongside Cheryl, enjoying the peaceful life they shared.
Jim also had a lifelong passion for antique automobiles. He could often be found working on classic cars in his garage or attending car shows with fellow enthusiasts who shared his appreciation for preserving automotive history. His love for antique cars was matched by his commitment to investing in future generations. In a testament to his generous spirit, Jim donated one of his treasured antique cars to be auctioned for the benefit of the Morristown Boys & Girls Club, helping support opportunities for local youth.
Jim leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Cheryl Quackenbush; brothers, George Quackenbush and David Quackenbush; sisters, Ruby Suhre and Cindy Quackenbush; stepdaughter Becky Heller; special nephew, Billy James and wife Donna; great-nieces Amber Barrett and husband Dustin, and April White; goddaughter Laura James; and many beloved great-great nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Though Jim’s quiet presence will be deeply missed, the legacy of kindness, generosity, service, and love he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
The family takes comfort in knowing that Jim’s life was well lived, his love freely given, and his impact on others immeasurable.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
A gathering of friends and family to honor and celebrate Jim's life will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Stubblefield Funeral Home.
