Michael “Mick” David Gennocro, age 80, passed away peacefully on October 17th at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City, TN, while residing in Morristown, TN. He was the widower of Jean Skinner, with whom he shared nearly 30 beautiful years of life and love.
Mick was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Mable Gennocro and Anthony Gennocro. He grew up in the small town of Emporium, Pennsylvania, where he attended and graduated from Cameron County High School. He had many passions throughout his life. From a young age, he loved hunting and fishing with his brothers and friends. Sports also held a special place in his heart — especially baseball and football, though he enjoyed them all. He played both baseball and football in his youth and continued an active love of the game throughout his life in local softball leagues.
Mick worked in many industries throughout his long life, but he spent the majority of his years self-employed as an independent contractor and business owner in Emporium. His entrepreneurial ventures included arcades, a movie store, a hotel, and most memorably, his bar — a place that gave him countless stories and friendships.
He answered his call to serve his country in 1965 when he was drafted into the United States Army. He honorably served for two years in the Army Signal Corps, excelling in communications and becoming a radio operator. During his service in Germany, he achieved the rank of SP4 and earned the Sharpshooter Badge and the National Defense Service Medal.
Mick is survived by his daughter, Jodi Gennocro; his grandchildren, Lexa Gennocro and Logan Randolph; and his great-grandchild, Reece Randolph. He is also survived by his brothers Jim and Sam Gennocro, his sister Mary “Margie” Putt, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mick was a strong, loving, and genuine man. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was never afraid to speak his mind, but he always prioritized his family and the people he loved. Time spent simply talking and being together meant everything to him. He showed unconditional love in every circumstance, and he would do anything for those he cared about. He will forever be remembered for his kind heart, his unforgettable beard, and the blessing he was in so many lives. Mick remains an inspiration to all who knew him.
Thank you for everything, Mick.
You will always be loved and never forgotten.
In Loving Memory of
Michael “Mick” Gennocro
