Peter William Barile, 83, died suddenly at his home on April 7th. Born in 1942 in Cicero, IL, he grew up in the hospitality furniture industry. From the age of 16 until Tuesday, he spent his career with Tri-Par Manufacturing (his father’s company), Shelby Williams Industries, and Daniel Paul Chairs.
A geology major at Lawrence College (now University) in Appleton, WI, he received his MBA in manufacturing from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. While home in IL for the 4th of July in 1966, he met his future wife, Barbara Olson. They were married in June 1967, and 8 weeks later he left her for a 13-month stint in South Korea with the US Army.
Back in the USA, the Barile family was transferred with Shelby Williams to the Philadelphia, PA area in 1974 and then to Morristown in 1977.
Pete was a huge supporter of the Morristown/Hamblen community and beyond. Among the many boards he served on (but not limited to) were the Chamber of Commerce, Rose Center, the Girls Club (now Girls, Inc.), Encore Theatrical Company, the Morristown Civil Service Board, the Knoxville Squadron of the U.S. Power Squadron, the UT College of Human Ecology Advisory Board, and Carson Newman’s Family and Consumer Sciences Board.
Among Pete’s interests and hobbies were creating chairs, building stacked stone walls, creating gardens and walking trails, woodworking, and anything involving trains, automobiles, boats, stars, clouds, and the water.
He was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Morristown.
Pete was devoted to his family, those gone and those with us. He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and June Barile. He is survived by his beloved wife Barbara (better known as Sami), sons Breau (Vickie), of Morristown, Jason (Jessica) of Hillsborough, NC, daughter Brynn (Dana) Rice of Morristown, sisters Lynn (Ted) Freedman of Hyde Park, NY, and Pam (Dr. Bradley) Bale of Gallatin, TN, grandchildren Dylan, Maya, Claire, and Stella Barile, step-mother Silvia Barile Arroyo, step-sister Nancy Barile, step-brother Ben Barile, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is especially missed by his devoted English Springer Spaniel Maisie and numerous step-cows.
At his request, no service is planned but a celebration (most likely involving garlic - afterall he was half Italian) will be planned.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Morristown, Rose Center, or the Encore Young Players program.
