

William Clifford "Butch" Stooksbury Jr., age 82, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on April 8, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was raised in Jefferson City. He was the son of the late William Clifford Stooksbury Sr. and Jama Pauline Marcum Stooksbury.
Butch graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1962 and attended Carson-Newman College and East Tennessee State University. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1969 as a Petty Officer Third Class (PO3) and was an aircrewman aboard C-1A aircraft with Squadron VRC-40.
In 1970, he married Martha Victoria Grant, and together they shared 56 years of marriage while lovingly raising their two sons, Grant and David. Butch retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority after many years as a power plant operator at the John Sevier Steam Plant.
Butch is survived by his wife, Martha Stooksbury; his sons, Grant Stooksbury (Erica) and David Stooksbury (Kristy); his sister, Jan Haney (Lynn); and his grandsons, Nathan, Everett, and Bennett, who brought him great joy.
Visitation with friends and family will be Sunday, July 26, from 2:00- 4:00 p.m. at Stubblefield Funeral Home. A military graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
