Frank and I have been pen pals (email pals really) since 2014 when I reached out to a group of principals on LinkedIn and he responded with so much help and support.  I live in Hong Kong but through these correspondences, the mentorship and subsequent friendship that grew was really special to me. He shared a little about his life, and family in every email, he asked with care about mine and we shared photos of the azaleas in both of our worlds! Every time I see them I think of him. When I didn’t get a response to my recent email and 6 months had passed since Frank’s last to me, it was unheard of. I came across this page during a search to check on my dear friend of afar. I am saddened to hear of his passing and send my deepest condolences to his loving family. Thank you Frank for being such a kind and caring soul. I will miss you! Abby x

The loss of my treasured friend, Frank has occupied my thoughts since I got word that he had passed. I have known Frank and Anna Merle for several years as fellow members of the Azalea Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society (ARS). Both of the Tanners have been Chapter leaders - the kind that work for others without concern for themselves. From the initial days when they joined the Azalea Chapter, they were enthusiastic in the work for the Chapter. Frank served on the Board of Directors and as Chapter Treasurer as well as Membership Chair. Both of these positions require significant effort, something that Frank did well. The Tanners have given of their time and resources, hosting Chapter Christmas parties and Chapter field trips to view their splendid garden. In his work with the national ARS office, he developed friendship with Society leaders, likely due to his attitude and thoroughness. 
 What do I think of when I think of Frank? I think of a loving person who cared for others. I think of a person who showed concern for others while he worked in schools as a teacher, band leader and school principal. My wife and I are older seniors. Frank always inquired about our well being. 
 My prayers are with Anna Merle, the Tanner children and other family members. Your loss is significant but continue living your life knowing that your dear loved one lived an admirable life and gave so much to others.

Mrs. Tanner, I send my deepest condolences. Mr. Tanner was an exceptional PRINCIPAL. He was stern , fair, had a big heart and I am honored to call him friend. He will be truly missed. 💚💚💚

Anna, my heart and prayers go out to you and your family. Frank meant the world to me even after graduation. He had a presence of excellence about him that made me want to succeed and do my very best at anything I attempted. He was certainly an icon in my formative years and I will forever remember the love he had for each and every one of his students. Their will never be another like him. God bless you all.

Looked forward to seeing Frank every month at our Azalea Club meetings! Enjoyed his dry wit and welcoming smile. He was one of the main reasons I joined the club. He was so good at handling details and making sure everyone was enjoying and learning about plants. Heaven just got a treasure.

Fond memories of this Master Teacher who touched the lives of students in the Clayton County School System. We will cherish the memories we have of him. Sincere condolences.

Mr. Tanner was the assistant band director when I attended FPSH. He had the patience of Job. So sorry to hear of his death. My sincere condolences to his family.

All my prayers of comfort for your loss. Frank was a great teacher, director, coworker, and boss. I’d known him almost my whole life, from song flute at ash street elementary to teaching with him at FPHS and then being my boss at pointe south elementary. He left his mark on this world!

Anna, I am so sorry to hear of Franks passing. Y'all were always such good neighbors to my brother David, Jennie and Shirley. I'll always remember him coming to the boat dealership and talking about his saltwater fishing trips with me.
