Roger Milton Dean

Roger Milton Dean, 79, born April 27, 1947, in Jonesboro, Georgia, was called home on July 30, 2026, in the same bedroom where life first began. His story is one rooted in home—steadfast, full-circle, and deeply cherished by all who knew him.

A hard-working man with a gentle way about him, Roger built a life that fed both people and community. He was the owner of Dean’s BBQ in Jonesboro, Georgia, and around town he was proudly known as the “Hog Man.” His humor and warm spirit were as much a part of the experience as the food itself, and his kindness and patience left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path. People came from miles just to try his BBQ—and, more often than not, they became returning customers, drawn back by the care behind every plate.

Roger also worked side by side with his two kids before retiring—proof that for him, family wasn’t something you scheduled around life; it was the way he lived it. And if you were lucky enough to know him, you know his humor had a way of showing up right when it was needed—never mean, never showy, just the kind that made a hard day lighter and a good day even better.

Roger’s devotion showed most clearly in the life he built with his family. He was married to Kathryn “Kit” Dean for almost 60 years, a partnership marked by steady love and enduring commitment. He was the father of two children, Christopher Dean, who preceded him in death, and Tiffany Dean Alvarado (Michael). He was a proud grandfather to Trey Goodman (Faatimah), Kelsey Scroggs, and Gavin Haynie, and a great-grandfather to Rayviaughn and Rayven. His grandchildren adored him, and he carried that love with quiet pride.

Roger's jovial spirit will be missed by all, but especially his family. His life remains stitched into the place and people he loved—shared through laughter, steady hands at work, and a legacy of goodness that will be remembered with gratitude and affection.
