Tommy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Julia Ann Bassett, his son, Timothy "Mike" Bassett, and his great-grandson, Timothy Chance New. He is survived by his daughter, Frances "Dale" (Larry) New, his daughter-in-law, SueAnne Bassett, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, and his devoted friend and caregiver, Trish Elliott, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love, strength, and quiet wisdom.
Tommy was a dedicated glazier for more than 40 years, a testament to his strong work ethic and commitment to faithfully providing for his family. He was a man of few words but, when he spoke, people listened. He had a giving heart and would always help where it was needed. He was a faithful servant of God and served as a deacon in his church and he loved his Lord and Savior deeply. He lived with the assurance that he was a child of the King, and that faith guided his life in the way he loved others.
Known affectionately as "Dad, Pappaw, and PawPaw", Tommy had a gift for storytelling and a way of leaving everyone with a smile while making sure that anyone who came into his home left feeling like family. Once you met him, you never forgot him, and, although he is no longer here to say it himself, those who knew him best can still hear his voice and know - he's 'still got it'
