Alvie had a variety of jobs which include a stint at McDonald Douglas and a position as Nurse’s Aide at Morton General Hospital. However, her starring role was as the consummate mother to her brood. She was a great cook and delighted in feeding family and friends.
She settled into her little house in Morton, WA in 1989; following the death of her husband and has cultivated many loving friendships. During these years, besides traveling, she has enjoyed working in her lawn, quilting, cross-word puzzles and watching "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy.” Alvie had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of The Morton Church of God for many years.
God called her home at 0735 on 28 March 2014 after a very short illness spent in Morton General Hospital.
She will join those who have preceded her in death, her loving husband of 47 years, William Paul Gaut, Sr., her sons Robert Euell Gaut and Roy David Gaut and her daughter Sheila Elaine Gaut Watt Lawter and two sons-in-law Carl Lee King and Mark Lawter.
Alvie was also predeceased by her parents Roy and Nancy Flatt, three brothers, Thomas Boyd Flatt, Harry Jackson Flatt and John William Flatt, and her sister Marie Huffman.
She has left behind a large number of people to grieve for her, her two sons William Paul Gaut, Jr. and his wife Janet and Russell Jay Gaut and his wife, Carmen; four daughters, Paula Irene Clevenger and her husband Bernard, Janet Sue King, Sheryl Ann Toyer and her beloved James Currie and Marilyn Jill Brasso. Her nine children made her the beloved grandmother of 22, great- grandmother of 27 and great-great-grandmother of 5. These children will miss the warmth of the woman lovingly known as Granny. She will be sorely missed by her many nieces and nephews, as well.
Her grieving family in Oklahoma includes 2 brothers, Wesley Flatt and Roy Eugene Flatt and his wife Mary and her two sisters Leeta Bernice Hesser and Louise Archiquette and her husband Bob. She, also, leaves many cousins, nephews and nieces to mourn her loss.
Alvie also leaves behind her beloved neighbors Randy and Wendy Kenney who have looked out for her for the past 20 years and have become more family than friends.
Visitation will be from 1-5 pm on Tuesday 1 April 2014 at Brown Mortuary at Morton, WA. A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held the following day, 2 April 2014 at 1 pm in Morton Cemetery.
