

Elmer Eli Day (Pops) 91, of Morton, WA, passed away peacefully October 21, 2009 at the Seattle VA Hospital. He was born July 18 or 20, 1918 to Enoch Blair and Mary Jane Short Day at the family homestead in Vance, WA. Elmer loved to get out into the woods to pick berries, mushrooms, and anything else he could harvest for the season. In his later 70's he was looking for mushrooms and saw a large cougar lying on a log between him and his 22 pistol. It was the most afraid he had ever been he told his family. He worked on his sister Pearl and husband, Dan Boone's farm when he was a teenager. Later he joined the Navy and served 1940-1946. Working in Alaska logging and commercial fishing were some of the jobs he had there. He brought his 2 eldest sons to Alaska when they were teenagers where they lived in a trapper's cabin for a winter. He later moved to California with his wife Della. He worked there in heavy construction and logging. He is survived by his sons Rodger Day, Darrell Day, Wayne Day, daughter-in-law Denise, daughter Twila LaBarge and son-in-law Michael, and thought of Yvonne Boyer as his daughter. He very much loved his grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Shane, Brandie, Tammy, Angie, Sheila, Robert, Rose, Jessica & Anthony, his great grandchildren: Levi, Shaylee, Katlynn, Sophia, Shad, Kyle, Justin, Tezra, Rosalee, Corinna, Cody, Kayla, Josh, Marissa & Gage. Elmer was preceded in death by his father and mother, and infant son Tony Charles, wife Della Bennett, sisters Nina, Mabel, Pearl, Blanche, Lenora, Dorothy, Kathleen and Wilma, brothers: twin brother Arthur, Charles & Edward. He was respected and loved by his second family at the Morton Manor for the past 2 years, especially Wanda, Tina, Bill, Beth Diane and all the other staff who took such good care of him. Elmer's family would like to thank all of the staff for Elmer's trips to the Casino, fishing, the recent Northwest Trek trip and the Luau's which he very much enjoyed. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Brown's Mortuary in Morton, WA on November 14th at 11:00am. A potluck will follow after the service at the Morton Senior Center.
