He was born in Morton, WA on January 12, 1945 to John and Zelma Moorcroft. Gerald told many stories about growing up in Packwood exploring the woods and fishing. He attended White Pass High School before going to work with his dad at Moorcroft construction. Gerald was a very outgoing man who would spark a conversation with anyone he met as long as you were willing to listen. He spent most of his younger days riding broncos, fishing for salmon, hunting anything you could skin and eat, and driving the hills in his Green Nissan with all of his dogs. He loved being outdoors and exploring what our beautiful state had to offer.
Gerald met his wife, Tami (DeRossett) Moorcroft in 1965 attending White Pass high school together. Excited to spend their new lives together, the two were married in 1966. Gerald and Tami couldn't wait to start a family of their own, as they blended their family with Gerald's daughter Michelle Moorcroft and then had three children together Myndee Kelly, Mystee Foglio, and Jack Moorcroft, and later raised Derek Moorcroft. Their kids meant the world to them.
Though he loved hunting, fishing, and riding broncos, Gerald's favorite role was that as a grandpa. He treasured his time with his grandkids and loved being their Papa Dadden, always spending time baking with them, taking them camping, fishing & teaching them how to grow a garden, and skills to take care of themselves in the woods: Such as building a fire, and how to hunt an Elk.
Gerald had a soft spot for his furry friends, treating each and every one like the valuable family member they were. Many people knew Gerald as the guy with a herd of Jack Russell Terriers. They went everywhere with him from the grocery store , fishing at the barrier dam, to camping and picking berries in the Gifford Pinchot.
Everyone who knew Gerald knew how much he loved hunting, camping, and fishing. However, his favorite thing was probably finding a "good deal" or any way to save some money.
Gerald will always be remembered for his animal calls and the way that he always made you laugh. We'll always imagine hearing him say " You know what you ought to do" or "take er' Easy" one more time. We couldn't have asked for a better dad and Grandpa, and we will miss Gerald every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. He was one of a kind!
