James Dennis Russell, 74, of Morton, Washington went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 1, 2023. His wife of 49 years was by his side as he ended his battle with cancer at the emergency room in Morton Hospital.
James was born in Terre Haute, Indiana and served in the Navy from 1967 to 1971. He became a patrolman for Indiana State University for 2 years and then re-enlisted in the Navy 1973-1977. While in the Navy, he met his wife Suzanne in Tucson and they made their home in Jacksonville, Florida. After the Navy, Jim worked as a police officer for Union Gap, Washington from April 1979 to 1989. In 1989, he started working for the State of Washington first as a driver licensing examiner, then in 1992 as an investigator for the DNR. He retired in 2016 and began his golden years of retirement.
Jim loved working anything mechanical and learning new hobbies, including the use of lathes and welding. He enjoyed helping people with their cars or tractors. He loved restoring old equipment and working on remodeling our home. He had a great sense of humor -- although sometimes a little dry -- and just made life less stressful for those around him. He had a great love of scriptures and memorized most of the New Testament. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Suzanne and 10 brother and sisters. He always enjoyed rattling off their names at lightning speed: Michael, Jimmy, Joan, Mark, Steve, Tommy, Phillip, Rene, Jonathan, Jane, Rosemary. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brown Mortuary Service, Morton.
