Marlene Marie Beaty
October 14, 1936 – February 19, 2019
Marlene Marie Skinner was born in Lidderdale, Iowa on October 14, 1936 and passed into the nearer presence of her Lord and Savior in Packwood, Washington on February 19, 2019 at 82 years of age. Marlene gave her time, talent, and treasures freely and didn’t know how to use the word “no.” Many knew her as the one who sang in front of the church, volunteered at the thrift store, or worked at the senior center. Those who knew her on the golf course knew her as a fierce competitor who graciously became one of the most consistent women golfers in High Valley Golf and Country Club history which included the award of first place in the “low gross” category for the 2018 golf season. Marlene married her lifetime love, Carl Beaty, in 1955 right out of high school and soon became the most amazing mother and role model for her four children, Jackie Wells, Kyle Beaty, Jeff Beaty, and Joe Beaty. Throughout the years, Marlene kept up with the hectic schedule of raising four children while working full time as a loan officer for a local hometown bank. She had amazing patience with her kids even when she came home from a long day of work and found the day’s catch of fresh trout was sitting in the kitchen sink and still uncleaned! In retirement, Marlene and Carl moved to their vacation property in High Valley Park where they enjoyed their passion of the great game of golf. They also developed amazing friendships and close relationships throughout the Packwood community. Marlene spent time working with the Merry Mountaineers who volunteered their time to provide community services to the elderly at the local senior center. In their early retirement years, Marlene and Carl took up wood working. While Carl busily built the projects out of wood, Marlene made sure they were beautifully painted. Many times these items were sold with all the proceeds going to one good cause or another. Quilting became Marlene’s indoor passion. She created a room in her home specifically designated to making some of the most beautiful quilts, some eventually winning ribbons in quilt shows and others given to precious family members. Marlene also served for many years at local Packwood churches where she enjoyed sharing her angelic voice and played the organ during church services. While traveling the country in their RV, Marlene and Carl shared their musical talents with other churches. They scheduled mini concerts for several congregations across the country which also gave them the opportunity to share their testimony to thousands of people, while inspiring many to make the lifelong decision to follow Jesus. In addition to her children, Marlene is survived by three daughters-in-law, Patty Beaty, Laurie Beaty, and Shannon Beaty. She had five grandchildren, Amber Phillips, Anthony Phillips, Austin Barnett, Jessica Battisti, and Kayla Sorensen. She also had 3 great grandchildren, Emily Mundell, Brinley Mundell, and Hunter Sorensen. Marlene was preceded in death by her two brothers, Gene Skinner, and Jerry Skinner as well as her precious husband Carl Beaty. Marlene loved Jesus Christ! She committed most of her retirement years sharing that good news with anyone who would listen. We will share that same good news once again at a memorial service for Marlene on March 9th at 1pm at the Packwood Foursquare Church. If you knew Marlene or Carl, you will want to be there! If you didn’t know them, you may also want to be there as their message of love could change your life for eternity.
