A native of San Jose, CA and long-time resident of Westlake and the Lake Charles area, David passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the age of 69. He grew up in California spending the summers at his uncle’s dairy farm in Tulare, CA which he greatly enjoyed. Following graduation from Andrew Hill High School, he served in the U.S. Navy on board the U.S.S. Independence and U.S.S. Constellation. Following his time in the Navy, he worked construction with his Dad and eventually moved to the Lake Charles area where he met his future wife, Kim. David was a hard worker throughout his life having worked for Western Sizzlin, Hardees, Delchamps, Albertsons, eventually retiring from Frito Lay. Following retirement, he went to work part-time for Little Debbie. As an avid sports fanatic, David enjoyed NASCAR, football (life-long Raiders fan), wrestling, and attending Westlake and Barbe High School games to hear the band play. A man of faith, David was a member and Usher for Freedom Life Church in Lake Charles and attended Glad Tidings for many years. He was a fantastic father to his sons, but the light of his life became his grandson, Gus. He had a goofy sense of humor with a quiet spirit who is greatly loved and will be dearly missed by his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years Kim Lopez Patton of Westlake; children Channing Patton of Westlake, Colin Patton (Amber Patton) of Lake Charles and Russell Patton, of Westlake; grandson, August Patton of Lake Charles and grandson on the way, Weston Patton; siblings, Dawnita Istre of Oxford, Fl, Ron Patton (Linda Patton) of Vestaburg, MI, and Janice Reagan of Westlake; nephews, Isreal Istre (Jessica Istre) of Clayton GA, and Zachary Istre (Kelly Istre) of Inverness, FL; nieces, Ashley Smolinski (Jason Smolinski) of Grand Rapids, MI, and Whitney Simmons (Clay Simmons) of Vestaburg, MI; and aunt, Marjorie Clayton of Visalia, CA; and many great-nephews, great-nieces, and cousins.
David is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Marie Patton; brother, Paul Jason Patton; and nephew, Stephen Douglas.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Hixson Moss Bluff (150 Bruce Circle, Moss Bluff, LA 70611) from 1:00 pm until the Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm celebrated by Pastor Paula Raley. A private interment will be held at a later date at Bertrand Cemetery in Jefferson Davis Parish. Donations in David’s honor can be made to Freedom Life Church (www.freedomlifelc.com).
