Gilbert Clementh Mueller

Gilbert “Don” Mueller, 90, of Moss Bluff, died February 28, in Ragley Louisiana. He was born November 16, 1930, in Jefferson City Missouri, the son of Otto and Elenora DeBroeck Mueller.

He graduated from Saint Peters High School in 1949 and attended Oklahoma University. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War, and moved to Southwest Louisiana in 1953. He retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company as a Communications Consultant. After retirement, he worked as a Realtor at Myrtis Mueller Realty.

Don loved sports, cooking, working in his yard, planting flowers and spending time with his family. He was active in the community as well as youth sports and coached Dixie Majors baseball. In 1981, he brought the first Dixie World Series to Lake Charles. He also coached flag football, girls fast pitch softball and basketball. He officiated high school football, softball and baseball. He helped organize and was a charter member of the Louisiana Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.

He served as President of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Moss Bluff Civic Club, served on the Ward One Recreation Board, and was a member of the VFW post 9933 and St. Theodore Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Myrtis Myers Mueller, sisters, Catherine Siebeneck, Ruth Mertens, Adele Clark, Julie Weber, and Marjorie Brondel,as well as his brother, Edgar Mueller.

Those left to cherish his memory are sons James Mueller and Jeff (Amanda) Pitre, daughters, Sheila Peterson (Ken), Lisa Staley, Liz Mueller, Gina Mueller (Chad Smith), his sister, Nora Lee Conrad, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 5, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a rosary at 6:00pm and resume Friday at 8:00am at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Burial will follow at Old Ritchie Cemetery. Uncle Gilbert, I will miss that infectious smile. You had an amazing demeanor that many of us younger relatives would love to replicate. Thank you for being you. Your legacy will live on through your son and daughters.... I'll see you in heaven. We will continue to cheer on LSU in your honor.
