Jack Monks loved and believed in Family.
Jack was a true instructor of life. He taught all he touched that faith and love of family were the bedrock of what is good with the world. Also, how to put a worm on a hook was something every child should know.
Dr. Jack Monks of Moss Bluff, La passed away July 25, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born January 12, 1942 in Gowen, Oklahoma.
Jack was a proud veteran of the US Air Force in which he trained the pilots and bombers that flew in protection of US Soil. He took this experience and received his PhD in Education from Oklahoma State University. After receiving his degree, he taught in the technology department and was the Director of the OSU adult education program, primarily working with active duty Air Force and other military bases in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. He relocated his family to Lake Charles, where he taught and retired as the department head of the Technology Department at McNeese State University. After which, he expanded the Monks’ Aviary, exotic bird breeding and world-wide sales.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Francis Marion (Buster) and Edith Monks; brothers Douglas, Doyle and Bill; and sister, Juanita.
Jack’s greatest pride takes place with the ones he is survived by; his wife, Gloria of 59 years; 2 children, Penny of Lake Charles and Charles and wife Julia of Pickens, SC; sister, Charlene Thorne of Daingerfield, TX; 6 Grandchildren; 7 ½ Great Grandchildren; and a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews scattered all across Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend The Celebration of Life at Hixson’s Funeral Home in Moss Bluff, La. on July 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. followed by memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
