OBITUARY

Judith A. Honsinger

May 9, 1939 – December 22, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

Hixson Moss Bluff

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Judith A. Honsinger on December 22, 2024, at her home in Moss Bluff, Louisiana, at age 85. Judith was born on May 9, 1939, to John and Annie Arceneaux in Rayne, Louisiana and was the oldest of the three daughters.

Those left to cherish her memory are her youngest sister, Janis Taylor (husband Don Taylor); daughter, Kathlene Honsinger Deaville (husband Patrick Deaville); grandson, Patrick Austin Deville; granddaughter, Sarah Grace Hunting (husband Codey Hunting); and two great-grandsons Edmund and Joseph Huntting.

Judith was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, stepfather, middle sister (Norma Dommert) husband (Harvey Gilbert Honsinger), and son (Harvey Paul Honsinger Il).

Judith was a graduate of Lafayette High School and McNeese State University. During her professional career, she worked as a teacher for the Calcasieu Parish School System, parole officer for the Louisiana Juvenile Probation and Parole Department, and worked for Lake Charles Mental Health as an occupational therapist.

Judith and Harvey Honsinger were married for fifty-four years, residing in Lake Charles then outside the city limits to Moss Bluff, Louisiana. Judith's husband Harvey was a native of Mont Belvieu, Texas, and they spent much of their free time with their two children and family at their get-a-way beach house in Beach City, Texas, on Trinity Bay.

Fostering the education, growth, and development of their oldest child, Paul, was important to Judy and Harvey. They spearheaded a committee with other like-minded parents with intellectually gifted children to implement special school classroom programs called SPARK (Seeking Purposeful, Analytic, Realistic Knowledge) for gifted children in Calcasieu Parish schools. This program and qualification techniques are still in use today in our school system.

Judith was exceptionally proud of her two children; Lake Charles High School graduates.

Harvey Paul graduated from the University of Michigan and the Louisiana State University School of Law. He excelled as a lawyer and was a published author of military science fiction novels. Kathlene also graduated from Louisiana State University, has won numerous advertising design awards, and is currently the Senior Account Executive for KPLC TV in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

A private graveside interment for family members was held at the Mont Belvieu Methodist Cemetery in Mont Belvieu, Texas, on January 13, 2025, at 10:30 am. Judith's mortal remains and those of her son Harvey Paul Honsinger II, who died in Arizona in 2020 were laid to rest. Judith was placed in the same plot as her beloved husband and Paul in an adjoining plot. Following the interring, a service for family and friends was held in the Fisher Chapel of the Mont Belvieu Methodist Church at 11:15 am. A Cajun gumbo reception was held at Floyd's Seafood and Steakhouse following the service.
