She was born in Shreveport, LA, to parents Huey and Madge McConnell on December 09, 1949. She was the eldest out of three siblings. Marilyn lived in Shreveport for most of her school years but moved to Alexandria and graduated from Bolton High.
Marilyn enlisted in the Marines and was stationed in Virginia for 5 years where she primarily did clerical work. She was honorably discharged and went back home to Alexandria, LA, where she attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches for her undergrad education in Library Science. Her love for reading pushed her to achieve a masters in Library Science.
She met her husband Calvin in Leesville, LA, while on a double date with one of her library friends, Dianne. They eventually moved to Lake Charles and settled and had two children, Joshua and Jacob.
Marilyn was an avid reader and shared her passion of literacy with her granddaughters, Stella and Evangeline, whom she helped with their care while their parents worked. She was very active in her church, First Moss Bluff, and volunteered whenever she could, most notably helping pack operation Christmas Child boxes.
Those who are there to greet her in Heaven are her parents, and two younger brothers, Wayne and Gary McConnell.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 44 years, Calvin Bonnette; sons, Joshua(Tiffany)and Jacob Bonnette; granddaughters, Stella and Evangeline Bonnette, and Michaela Bonnette; grandson, Ason Bonnette; multiple nieces and nephews; and her church Sunday School class.
