Oma was born August 9, 1923 in Hecker, LA on a house boat. She lived there til she was able to toddle around, and fell in the river… and she did. The family then moved to Orange, Texas. They moved back to Lake Charles, where Oma went to 4th ward school. In 1935, they moved to Moss Bluff. Oma went to school in Gillis. Oma married Henry Lee Block, and they built a home in Orange, Texas. Oma went to work in the Orange Bank where she worked for 39 years. She retired as Vice President of Orange bank. Oma built a house in Moss Bluff where she lived out her life.
Oma Block was preceded in death by her mother, Vergie Lyles Koonce; father, John Koonce and husband, Henry Lee Block.
Oma is survived by two sisters, Dorothy C. Jones and husband, Robert L. Jones of Moss Bluff, Ann Dickson and husband, Charles Dickson of Lake Charles; nephews, Michael Jones of Loveland, CO and Wayne Jones of Moss Bluff, Adonis Dickson, Sterling Dickson and Dimitrious Dickson all of Lake Charles; niece, Nadine Parton of Moss Bluff; great nephews, Jeremy C. Midkiff, Ryan, Tori and Tanner Jones, Christopher, Sean, Ryan, and Alexander Dickson and great niece, Alexandria Dickson.
Her funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2010 at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Rev. James Rivers will officiate. Burial will be in Old Ritchie Cemetery.
