Randall Brian “Randy” Hood was born on November 21, 1953, in Oakdale, Louisiana. From an early age, he carried the determination, grit, and larger than life personality that would define his journey. On August 31, 2026, at 2:25 a.m., Randy peacefully “slept away” at his home in Moss Bluff, Louisiana, surrounded by love and comfort.
For more than 30 years, Randy made his home in Lake Charles, Louisiana, (Moss Bluff) where he became widely known and deeply respected. He was also very well known in Lafayette, LA, where he built a very successful business as well. A Civil Engineer by trade and a hands-on builder by passion, Randy lived for the work that shaped the roads and highways across the state. If there was a piece of equipment on a job site, Randy was on it. His fondest memories included working on Interstate I 10, but truthfully, there are very few roads in the Lake Charles area that he didn’t help build.
Randy was a successful entrepreneur, creating several self-made businesses throughout his life. He was best known for R Hood Construction, LLC, and for his collaborations and employment with MPB Construction, where his expertise, leadership, and relentless work ethic left a lasting mark on Louisiana’s infrastructure.
He loved fast cars — and driving them even faster. Randy lived boldly, with more close calls than most people could imagine, earning the reputation of a man with “nine lives.” Through it all, he remained true to his roots: a Chevy/GMC man, through and through.
Randy’s life was filled with family, friendship, and the kind of stories that only a man like him could collect. He cherished the people he worked with, the friends he made along the way, and the many relationships built over a lifetime of hard work and adventure.
Randy is preceded in death by his father Henry Hood Jr., his mother Dorothy Miller Hood, his only brother Jerry Hood, and his brother-in-law, David Mack Oliver.
Randy is lovingly survived by his devoted fiancé and former spouse, Connie Singletary Hood; his sisters: Virginia Hood Oliver, Amber Hood Vest (and husband Mark Vest), and sister-in-law Martha Hood; his children: Joshua Phillips (and wife Kelly Phillips) of Diana, TX Dr. Katherine “Katie” Hood McCann (and husband Kellan McCann) of Jonesboro, AR, his bonus children: Brandon Singletary (and wife Michelle Singletary) Kyle Singletary (and fiancée Sheri Purvis Bercegeay); his grandchildren: Kimball (and husband Justin), Keagan (and wife Cindy), Kamryn, Riley (and husband Caleb), Landon, Indie, and Sullivan, bonus grandchildren: Madison (and husband Blade) and Matthew, his great grandchildren: Adeline Amelia, Joshua Reid, Easton Ray, and Emmalia Catalina, and bonus great grandchildren: Knox and Kayden.
Randy is also remembered by a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless coworkers, colleagues, and friends — those still here and those gone before. Whether someone knew him for a lifetime or only a short while, Randy left an impression that will never fade.
Celebration of Randy's Life will be on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Westlake Church of God Andrsn, 140 Maddox Road
Westlake, LA 70669, with Pastor Rocky East Officiating.
