Richard Thomas "Tommy" Silvia, age 76, of Lake Charles, Louisiana completed his earthly journey on Monday, August 14, 2023 at Lake Charles Memorial Hospital in Lake Charles, LA. Tommy was born in Lake Charles on August 31, 1946 to William Thomas "Tom" Silvia and Anna Gertrude "Pete" Silvia.
Tommy lived his entire life in the Lake Charles area. He was a 1965 graduate of LaGrange High School. After high school he attended McNeese State University, but decided to pursue a career as a barber along side his father 40 plus years at Silvia's Barber Shop in Moss Bluff. He was also a bus driver for the Calcasieu Parish School Board for over 30 years.
Tommy spent more than 40 years visiting with his customers at Silvia's. An untold number of jokes, tall tales, and family stories were shared with Tommy as he cut the hair of generations of Moss Bluff residents and the surrounding community.
Tommy enjoyed fishing off the Calcasieu River, hunting, shrimping, playing pool at his barber shop, and having his early morning cup of coffee. He enjoyed the occasional Miller Lite and a good hamburger. He took pride in his work and made his father's business his own. Tommy was a member of the Barber's Union, the Umpire Association, and he coached American Legion Baseball.
He will be welcomed into Heaven by his parents, his beloved sister, Anna Marie Hayes and her husband, Simon John Hayes, and a great-nephew, John Patrick Hayes.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Kristi Lovelace (Jeremy) and Kimberly Streva (Tony); son, Lance Reese; grandchildren, Braxton Phelps, Jonah Lovelace, Tyler Lovelace, Makenzie Phelps, Krystan Statum, and Amber Reese; great-grandchildren, Reese Bailey, Anna, Carter, and Chandler Cole, Wrenley Rae Lovelace; nephews, Johnny Hayes (Grace) and Donny Hayes (Amanda); great nieces and nephews, Aaron, Will, and Nora Hayes; and special friends, Ricky and Linda Williams.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of the Lake Charles Care Center, Adriana, Michelle, Misti, Ginger, Crystal, Leah, Mr. Buck Fellows, and Charles Campbell.
Family will receive friends beginning at 8:00 a.m. until time of Celebration of Life Service at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff.
