

Roland was born August 3, 1929 to Ivy J. Bailey and Sylvia Watson Bailey. He had one sibling, a sister named Euretha Gene Little. He grew up in Longville, LA and graduated from Longville High School. Roland attended Matthews Business College in Lake Charles, LA. He worked for a few years at Cities Service Refinery beginning at the age of 18. Roland was in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1953 on the USS New Jersey Battleship during the Korean Conflict. He married the love of his life, Mary Kathryn Stagg on January 1, 1954 and was married for 54 years until she passed away. Roland had lots of ambition and was blessed by God to be quite a businessman. He sold sewing machines door to door and owned and operated Bailey’s Sewing Center on Broad St. in Lake Charles. He also had other businesses in other cities and states. Roland had lots of rental property and developed numerous subdivisions at Toledo Bend and sold the lots. He gave much time and effort to various forms of church work, primarily for Westwood Baptist Church in Westlake and First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff. He made business deals to help churches gain land or to build. He was chairman of building committees, a deacon and was on Pastor Search Committees for Westwood Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff. Roland and his wife, Mary Kathryn started a scholarship fund for seminary students. His hobbies were motorcycles, boating, fishing, hunting, and camping at Bundicks and Toledo Bend. Roland liked to pull pranks in his earlier years and he loved surprising family with gifts and vacations.
Survivors include his children, Wanda Sue Stahl and husband, Richard, Gary Roland Bailey, Donna Kay Chance, Michael Wayne Bailey and wife, Kera, and Scott Dwayne Bailey and wife, Christine; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Josh Bailey, Hunter Chance, Jordan Chance, John Vinson, Brent Stahl and Jeremy Newman.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 4pm to 9pm at Hixson Funeral home of Moss Bluff. Visitation will resume Thursday from 9am until service time at First Baptist Church of Moss Bluff at 10am. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Ragley, LA.
