Teresa Martinez returned home on March 27, 2026, at the age of 96. She was born on October 24, 1929, and was a resident of Moss Bluff, Louisiana. She was born in Zwolle to George and Fannie Ebarb Martinez on October 24, 1929.
As a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence in San Antonio, Texas for 25 years, she received her B.S. in mathematics and taught in their schools in Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana. To enrich her background in Math and Science, she attended OLL in San Antonio, Oklahoma U in Norman, Oklahoma, St. Mary's U in San Antonio, North Texas State in Denton, Texas and US in Lafayette on a National Science Foundation grant. It was in Lafayette in 1964 she met her best and lifetime friend, Anna Boudreaux.
In 1972 she earned a Masters Degree in Mathematics at Stephen F. Austin U in Nacogdoches, Texas and was recruited by the Cameron Parish School Board. She was a teacher at South Cameron High School for 25 years. Besides teaching Math and Science she accrued 30 Graduate Hours plus certification in French. She became a Dale Carnegie instructor and conducted classes in Lake Charles and Beaumont. Her background was enriched by receiving credits from Viterbo, Wisconsin and the U of the State of New York.
After retiring in 1996 she volunteered in the school system for three years, followed by two years in the local church parish and a year as treasurer for the Cameron Council on Aging... While working with students and the poor, she received the Golden Globe Award. The monies were shared by South Cameron High School and Cameron Elementary. Among her favorite hobbies were weaving, sewing, reading, gardening, music, and cooking. Among her treasures is a scrapbook of letters from former students.
Teresa is survived by her life partner and companion, Anna Boudreaux; her adopted family Dusty Coleman, Sherie Richmond, And their kids Pollex, Chevy, Hunter, Castor, Xaiver Coleman. Along With Farrell And Margarite Harrington, Tereas Lynn Harrington. and * her nieces and nephews, Roy Michael, Sharon and Gayle, Gwen, Cindy, Mike and Pam, Michelle, and Greg and Ken and beloved friend, Gerry Wright.
She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Msgr. George W. Martinez and Roy E. Martinez of Monroe, Anthony C. Martinez of Bon Wier, Texas and Joseph P. Martinez of Baton Rouge. Steve Martinez, from St. Louis, MO
A time of fellowship will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026 at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate.
