I, unlike most of you folks haven’t known Erv as long as you! I met him when Matt invited us to go fishing with him in Rock Port several years ago all the young guys bailed out of the truck first and when I got he said thank goodness they brought an old guy with them! We hit it off and he invited us down to fish with him and his friends every year! He came up to our part of the country and hunted with us the last couple of years! We didn’t care much about shooting deer, but wore the pigs out! Some of the best times I ever spent was in a blind and wading the bay with Erv! I’m going to miss him! Such a good man and a dear friend!

I was shocked and saddened for the untimely death of Ervin. I have know Ervin and his late wife Mary for some 40 plus years. I grew up right up the road from Ervin and Mary. They were good friends of my mom and dad Taylor and Leona Biehunko. Ervin was a definitely and entrepreneur and helped get the first motel in Moulton "The Moulton Inn". My dad Taylor was good friends of Ervin dad being much older Ervin named him "Popps". He and dad were fishing buddies for many years. They had so many good times together. My dad passed away in 2010 and Ervin was a pallbearer for him. I know dad was definitely one of the first Moultonites to great him into heaven. May god bring his blessings upon the entire family.

Mr Erv greeted me the first time I got out of the truck at his fishing cabin, like I’d been there a hundred times, and he couldn’t wait for me to get there again. I watched him greet my dad, and several of my buddies for the first time, that same way, when they met him for the first time. He did so for several years, in the exact same manner.
Ol Erv was positively in his element when he was waist deep in the waters around Rockport. No one loved to catch trout more than he did, and he caught plenty while the rest of us rookies struggled to get bit. He was pretty in his element shooting hogs too. My last great memory of my friend Erv was picking up he and my dad from the deer blind where they had shot 6 hogs between them, until they just “didn’t want to reload anymore”. I’ll never forget how fast he was talking about all the pigs they’d shot, as I gathered them all up. But fishing, nor hunting, were close to being Erv’s best talent...that was being Pop.
Anyone who had the privilege of calling Erv a friend, is better for that chance, but none more than those lucky enough to call him Pop. Those lucky kiddos had their time cut short. But they’re also very lucky for the time they had.
I’ll forever be grateful for the short time I got to share with you, sir. Rest easy, Mr Erv. We will share a beer again.
