Gerald Lieberman, 81, of West Palm Beach, Florida, died peacefully on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida, surrounded by his family after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Gerald was born in June 1941 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the son of Melvin and Mildred Lieberman. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Norman Lieberman and Eugene Lieberman.
Gerald completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, where he was a proud member of the Delta Kappa fraternity and made lifelong friends. A few years after graduating from Ithaca, he joined IBM, where he moved to the Real Estate division and stayed almost 20 years. With IBM, Gerald moved the family around the country and the world; from New York to Chicago, Illinois, to Paris, France, and then to Westlake Village, California, before eventually moving back to New York in the mid-1980s. After returning to New York, Gerald took a senior leadership role in property management with Olympia & York, where he stayed for 11 years. Later in life, he worked for an electric energy startup, New Energy Ventures, before eventually retiring and selling residential real estate part-time.
In January, 1963, in New York, Gerald married his college sweetheart, Arlene Jassin, who predeceased him after a long bout with breast cancer in 1995. They had two children, Neal and Debra. In 1997, Gerald found happiness again and married Cynthia Kane while in New York, and they retired to West Palm Beach, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Lieberman, son Neal and his wife Anne, and their three children Hale, Lane, and Mack as well as his daughter Debra and her husband Edward (Boyer), and their three children Caleb, Taryn, and Aero. Gerald was loved by his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jerry, as most of his friends called him, loved to socialize; he made friends easily and had many. He loved to travel, eat and talk with new people. He had a great affinity for dogs, with a special affection for Labradors. He was a loving and doting husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, friend, and colleague and loved doing things for others, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his family and all that knew him.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 12th at 11 am at Sharon Gardens in the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York (273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla, NY 10595). Following the service, guests will gather at The Valhalla Crossing Restaurant (2 Cleveland Street, Valhalla, NY, 10595) from 12 – 3 pm to honor Gerald and share memories in his honor.
Donations can be made in Gerald’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Associations (https://www.alz.org/nca/donate) or to the Labrador Retriever Rescue of Florida (https://lrrof.org/in-memory-or-honor-donation/).
